West Ham may finally be listening to their fans as preliminary talks are held with Liverpool over a deal many have been calling for.

A significant amount of money could change hands between West Ham and Liverpool this summer.

While Graham Potter plots a major Hammers rebuild, Arne Slot is looking to fine tune his title-winning Liverpool squad.

Slot’s alleged plan is intrinsically linked to Potter’s.

Because the Reds are said to be the only show in town for Mohammed Kudus and West Ham are banking on that sale to raise funds for their overhaul.

PSR means the Hammers must sell to buy.

Jamie Carragher did Liverpool’s bidding by touting Kudus for a move last week after watching him in action for West Ham.

Kudus not the only deal on cards for West Ham and Liverpool

Carragher will be all too aware of Liverpool’s interest in Kudus, which remains strong according to recent reports.

Especially after Slot, a self-confessed Kudus fan, made it clear the Reds were going to be spending big improving the squad this summer.

Slot raved about Kudus following West Ham’s recent defeat at Anfield, after which it was revealed several Liverpool players, including captain Virgil van Dijk, have been urging the club to sign the Ghanaian since last season.

Liverpool is said to be Kudus’ preferred destination when he leaves West Ham this summer.

But it’s not the only transfer on the cards between the two clubs.

Because a West Ham star’s exit now looks certain as talks are held with Liverpool over a deal fans are desperate to see.

There is set to be a changing of the guard in the goalkeeping department at West Ham and Liverpool this summer.

Alisson will be joined by £40m Georgian star Giorgi Mamardashvili when he arrives from Valencia and Caoimhin Kelleher has set his sights on being a number one elsewhere.

Meanwhile in east London there are serious doubts over Alphonse Areola as West Ham’s number one and 40-year-old veteran Lukasz Fabianski has left the club after seven years.

West Ham have been linked with a move for Kelleher since he made it clear he wants to leave Liverpool to be a first choice stopper.

But Hammers fans were furious when reports emerged that the club had switched attentions to relegated Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale.

Many have been calling for the club to move for Kelleher.

Last month journalist Alan Nixon claimed West Ham are indeed targeting Kelleher – but only as a back-up option to Ramsdale.

The news came amid reports Areola could be sold to Espanyol – who are losing Joan Garcia.

Now it seems West Ham are listening to their supporters.

Because The Times and Reuters are reporting the Hammers have made contact with Liverpool about signing Kelleher when the window opens.

According to the report, West Ham do face inevitable competition with but have held preliminary discussions and a fee of £20m is being quoted by the Reds.

But it is only the Hammers of the clubs mentioned where Kelleher would be number one – even if they didn’t sell their current first choice stopper.

Hammers listen to fans with move for Kelleher

The welcome news for West Ham comes after Kelleher himself sent a come and get me plea this week.

“I feel like I’m a number one and good enough to play week-in, week-out,” Kelleher told Optus Sport after Liverpool’s final game of the season.

“And that’s what I’m looking to do.”

West Ham number one Areola has been lined up by Espanyol since as far back as March.

The 6ft 5in Frenchman has failed to convince since being made the outright first choice goalkeeper at the London Stadium.

Capable of making absolutely stunning saves, many West Ham fans still felt Fabianski was the better option given his calmness, decision-making and command of the area.
