West Ham sold Oxford to Augsburg for £3 million in the summer of 2020 (Daily Mail).

The now 22-year-old was incredibly highly rated at Upton Park when he came through the ranks as a schoolboy.

He took the Premier League by storm when he made his debut against Arsenal way back in 2015 as a 16-year-old. And he completely bossed the game against seasoned pros.

Unfortunately for Oxford, however, he seemed to regress badly during the few years that followed his debut for the senior side. Whether that was because of a lack of opportunities to strut his stuff or his so-called questionable work ethic isn’t entirely clear.

All we do know is that when West Ham sold him for £3 million two years ago, it seemed like good business for the East London outfit.

Oxford has taken his time to produce the goods consistently at the very highest level.

It seems as though this season could be a breakthrough one for him, however.

The 22-year-old has played 90 minutes in four of Augsburg’s five Bundesliga games this season.

During those outings, he has averaged 1.5 tackles, 5.8 clearances, 1.3 blocks and 1.8 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

One stat stands out in particular, however. Oxford has averaged 3.5 interceptions per game. That is more than any player has averaged in the Bundesliga so far this season.

It is good to see Oxford starting to realise his true potential. Sure it’s frustrating that he may one day go on to become world class, considering that we sold him for just £3 million.

It is all speculative at the moment, however. The one time West Ham starlet needs to prove himself over a sustained period of time. And that takes hard work and dedication. Whether he is prepared to put those hard yards in remains to be seen, however.
