The West Ham United hierarchy have been urged to take action to improve the London Stadium.

West Ham legend Mark Ward gave co-owner David Sullivan honest warning to his face about stadium move

West Ham United Independent Supporters Association has implored co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold and their vice-chairman Karren Brady to act after disparaging comments from Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

Nearly five years after leaving Upton Park, a large number of West Ham fans are increasingly bitter about the move to the London Stadium.

West Ham fans have continually called for London Stadium improvements

Hammers supporters will probably never get over leaving their beloved Boleyn.

But fans have continually called for Sullivan, Gold and Brady – now commonly acronymed GSB – to make improvements to bring the stands close to the pitch.

West Ham supporters and a host of pundits do not feel the stadium is fit for football or conducive to generating the kind of atmosphere Upton Park was famed for.

West Ham have moved to try and improve the matchday experience over the last two seasons.

And the club has squared off the stands behind the goals in line with more traditional football stadia.

‘Feels empty even when it is full’ Lineker and Shearer savage London Stadium

But now WHUISA is calling for more to be done to bring seats closer to the pitch. That’s stinging criticism from pundits Lineker and Shearer.

“If ever there was a contrast between what a club’s ground was like for atmosphere and what it is like now for atmosphere, this is probably it,” Lineker said in a BBC Sport feature on stadiums published yesterday.

“London Stadium is probably the only ground I can think of nowadays in this country where the pitch is miles from the stand. That is where it loses that atmosphere.”

Shearer was even more damning in his assessment.

The Premier League’s best ever goalscorer said the London Stadium ‘feels empty even when it’s full’.

“You mention The Den about them being close and tight and horrible and them abusing you. Upton Park was similar to that and in terms of going from that to where they are now at London Stadium, it is chalk and cheese,” Shearer said on BBC Sport.

Hammers fan group urge GSB to take action to bring seats closer to the pitch

In a post on Twitter WHUISA called for GSB to take action to make improvements.

“Shearer and Lineker comment on atmosphere at LS,” WHUISA said on Twitter.

“LS feels empty even when full” Atmosphere affected by distance from pitch. This needs to change – what do supporters think?

“#UnitedWeStand.”
