West Ham United now have to make an urgent decision after some bad news emerged overnight.
Graham Potter and his sidekick Kyle Macaulay are clearly trying desperately to get one or two signings over the line for West Ham before deadline day.
The Hammers now have just three-and-a-half days remaining before the January transfer window slams shut.
We are all fully aware that the signing of a new striker should be the main priority for Potter over the next 72 hours or so.
West Ham are believed to be closing in on the signing of Evan Ferguson from Brighton, after Victor Boniface’s proposed move to Al Nassr was called off.
I would take the talented 20-year-old Seagulls hitman every single day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

Still, it makes sense for the Hammers to have a few more irons in the fire, so to speak.
However, one of our supposed contingency transfer plans now has zero chance of happening before deadline day
West Ham target Ricardo Pepi suffers serious knee injury
The Hammers are believed to be chasing the signing of PSV Eindhoven forward Ricardo Pepi.
In fact, West Ham were said to have lodged a £20 million bid for the 22-year-old PSV striker.
That offer was rejected and the Hammers are said to be weighing up another offer for the USMNT international.
However, that clearly won’t be happening now.
That’s because Eindhovens Dagblad are reporting that after his goal for PSV against Liverpool on Wednesday night, Pepi suffered a serious knee injury – one that will keep him out of action for the rest of the season.
What a huge shame that is for the striker, and for the Hammers.

The 22-year-old has been in exceptional form for PSV this season, and I believe he would have been a terrific signing for us.
Ricardo Pepi ideal for West Ham
The young striker is absolutely perfect for the Hammers, so it’s a shame that we won’t be signing him this winter.
He has been in fine form for PSV this season, with an impressive 18 goals and three assists in 29 games to his name.
Pepi is incredibly strong and is well capable of playing with his back to goal and holding up the ball.
However, he possesses impressive pace as well, and is known for making penetrating runs in behind the opposition’s defence.
He’s obviously a brilliant finisher too, so on paper, he has everything we need at the London Stadium.
I believe West Ham would have had a future star on our hands, had we signed Ricardo Pepi before deadline day.
However, that’s not possible anymore.
Now the Hammers recruitment team have to ensure that they get down to business, and bring a top-class striker to the club before the window slams shut.
