Supposed major striker boost for Graham Potter but the joke’s on West Ham

The door may well now be open for Graham Potter to sign a striker for West Ham United.

West Ham cannot allow the January transfer window to drift by without signing a proven centre-forward.

Graham Potter has a really sizeable task on his hands, if he is to get the Hammers back into Europe.

In order to do that, he obviously needs some help from the board.

Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio are currently out with long-term injuries, and Jarrod Bowen has only just returned to full training.

West Ham need a new striker desperately, and with recruitment guru Kyle Macaulay now at the London Stadium, our transfer business should explode into life at any moment.

The perfect striker is out there waiting for the Hammers, but I feel like we could be targeting the wrong man.

Striker boost for Graham Potter but the joke’s on West Ham

The Hammers head coach has to get a deal over the line for a striker before Monday’s deadline.

There are no excuses for the West Ham board not to make this happen now.

Evan Ferguson seems to be the striker who’s most likely to join the Hammers before deadline day.

According to the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, West Ham are now in a good position to sign the Brighton hitman.

That’s because Victor Boniface‘s proposed move to Al Nassr is now off, with the Saudi outfit set to sign Jhon Duran instead.

Whilst that seems like fairly good news on the surface, I actually think that the joke is on the Hammers in truth.

Here’s the thing, Ferguson is unquestionably a really talented striker, and I think he’ll be a solid addition for the Hammers.

However, if the West Ham board had any kind of ambition whatsoever, they would be making a move to sign Boniface instead.

Victor Boniface is perfect for West Ham

Leverkusen are prepared to sell the 24-year-old for just £43 million in the January transfer window after all.

Boniface has absolutely everything we need at the London Stadium.

The Nigerian is an absolute powerhouse, and standing at 6ft 3in tall, he’s a nightmare to defend against.

He has bagged an impressive 29 goals and 11 assists in 49 games for Leverkusen since joining the Bundesliga outfit in the summer of 2023 (Transfermarkt).

There is no doubt in my mind that the Bayer Leverkusen ace is the ideal man to lead us to the next level.

If the West Ham board really are genuine about making some proper progress, they should sign Victor Boniface for Graham Potter instead of Evan Ferguson before the January transfer window closes.

Let Leverkusen sign the Republic of Ireland international instead.
