West Ham have moved to clarify the role of Tim Steidten after David Moyes reports and the new man makes a hugely exciting claim.
It was not so long ago speculation was rife that David Moyes was set to depart West Ham this summer.
A string of reports stated that West Ham’s owners had been so disappointed with the club’s transfers in recent windows that David Sullivan was going to hire a top level director of football to oversee recruitment.
That looked like being the beginning of the end for Moyes given his insistence on being heavily involved in West Ham’s transfer dealings.
But last month a report then stated Moyes was staying and would have an even bigger say in recruitment alongside a new director of football.

West Ham officially announced the arrival of that top level DoF in the shape of Tim Steidten this weekend – as Hammers News reported the club would at the start of the week.
All eyes now will be on how the relationship works between Moyes and Steidten and the profile of player West Ham look to sign.
To that end the Hammers have moved to clarify role of Steidten after those Moyes reports and the new man makes a hugely exciting claim.
In a statement West Ham said Steidten had instant success with his data-led approach to scouting at previous club Bayer Leverkusen. And they will clearly be hoping that is the case at the London Stadium.
“Steidten will be responsible for the club’s overarching player recruitment strategy and scouting department, working closely with manager David Moyes and sporting director Mark Noble,” West Ham said in a statement.

Moyes doubled down on the clarification by making it clear he would be working with Steidten.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to welcome Tim to the West Ham United family,” Moyes said.
“He has a strong track record in elite level football and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”
And last word to the new man himself was the most exciting for fans as the 44-year-old German revealed he is excited by the club’s ambitions after his meeting with the board.
“Building on the club’s recent European success, there is already a fantastic team in place, but also so much ambition – from the board, the manager, his staff and the players – to continue succeeding, developing and growing,” Steidten said.
“I cannot wait to play a key part in that. Come on you Irons!”
