West Ham make formal £29.6 million bid for La Liga striker

West Ham United have apparently made a formal bid for a striker who absolutely tore it up last season.

Julen Lopetegui has made an impressive start to the summer transfer window at West Ham, and now he’s lodged a bid for a new striker.

Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham and Max Kilman have all joined the Hammers, but there is plenty more work still to be done.

Lopetegui is said to be prioritising the addition of a proven striker now – someone to come in and pick up the mantle from Michail Antonio.

The Jamaica international has been brilliant for us over the past nine years, but now is the time for the West Ham manager to bring in a big upgrade on him.

Lopetegui will undoubtedly be eyeing a rapid striker – someone who has the physical capabilities needed to succeed in the Premier League.

Finding a centre-forward who fits his system perfectly will be the priority, and there are plenty of names out there who we’ve been linked with already this summer.

The two strongest links are with Youssef En-Nesyri and Simon Banza, but a new name has now entered the fray…

West Ham make formal striker bid

Lopetegui has now signed a right winger, a goalkeeper and a centre-back this summer.

Next up on the list absolutely has to be a top-class striker.

And it seems like the Hammers boss identified one man in particular for the job.

However, the story doesn’t seem like it will have a happy ending for West Ham.

According to a report from AS (print edition July 6th, page 29) the Hammers have submitted an official £29.6 million bid for Girona striker Artem Dovbyk.

Unfortunately for us though, that offer has been rejected out of hand by the Spanish club.

Dovbyk is an absolute powerhouse of a centre-forward. Standing at 6ft 2in tall, the 30-capped Ukraine international is a real handful in the air.

The 27-year-old possesses impressive pace as well, and he’s obviously a very good finisher too.

He bagged 25 goals and 10 assists in 41 games in all competitions for Girona last season, and he led the La Liga goalscoring charts.

I would absolutely love to see Dovbyk move to the London Stadium from Girona this summer.

Unfortunately for West Ham, our £29.6 million bid for the striker was rejected, and whether or not we’ll go back in with a new offer remains to be seen.
