West Ham handed major boost in race to sign incredible midfielder as director breaks silence

West Ham United need to bolster our ranks in pretty much every single department when the summer transfer window opens.

However, Graham Potter will surely agree that the area in most need of upgrading at West Ham is the central midfield department.

Potter took over from Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium around four weeks ago, and he has already made huge strides.

Evan Ferguson joined in the January transfer window, and the Irishman has highlighted just how strong the West Ham squad is.

However, much more work needs to be done, and Potter has his work cut-out, alongside recruitment guru Kyle Macaulay.

Potter spoke to reporters about the Hammers’ winter business, and admitted that he was delighted with the signing of Evan Ferguson.

However, his main priority in the here and now will be to improve the players he already has at the club.

That being said, it still goes without saying that he needs to revamp his squad in the summer.

Ezechiel Banzuzi door swings wide open for West Ham

The Hammers seemingly have a great chance to sign Ezechiel Banzuzi this summer.

West Ham chased the 19-year-old midfield powerhouse pretty much all last month, but we missed out on him in the end.

In spite of that, everything seems to be set up for Banzuzi to leave OH Leuven in the summer.

Especially after Leuven’s sporting director Gyorgy Csepregi spoke out about the Dutch midfielder’s attitude.

Csepregi spoke to Het Nieuwsblad about Banzuzi’s future, and his current state of mind:

“I don’t talk to him about transfers and money, only with his brothers and agent. But it is logical that a 19-year-old boy who receives interest from clubs from La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Premier League is not fully focused. You also saw that in the matches. But so, would I,” he said.

“I can’t blame him and perhaps it’s even a good thing that he is suspended. This way we can give him some space this week to make the switch next week.

“He must do that in order to be able to make his transfer in the summer and not miss the U21 European championship. So, from next week the focus must return to OHL.”

He then went on to say that the teenager has an agreement in place with OH Leuven to leave the club in the summer:

“We have agreed with Eze that he’ll finish the season. We will definitely give him the next step in the summer. He’s completely outgrown the competition, hasn’t he? He plays on one leg.”

Well, he couldn’t have been any clearer there if he tried could he.

There is no doubt that West Ham target Ezechiel Banzuzi will be off in the summer.

And the Hammers should already be trying to agree a deal to sign him now.

We are in desperate need of some power, pace and energy in the middle of the park, and Banzuzi would provide us with that instantly.

Hopefully the Hammers are able to win the race for his signature in the summer.
