West Ham fans won’t believe what was spotted in the Colombia crowd during Copa America clash

Any West Ham United fans watching the Colombia vs Panama Copa America clash on Saturday wouldn’t have believed their eyes midway through the match.

For those of us in Europe, it’s tough to keep up with the goings on of the Copa America, due to the time difference between us and the United States.

In addition to that, West Ham interest in the competition may well be officially over now, after Lucas Paqueta and Brazil were dumped out of the competition by Uruguay, in spite of the midfielder’s impressive performances.

The semi-finals – Argentina vs Canada and Colombia vs Uruguay – will now take place in the early hours of Wednesday and Thursday morning.

I have watched the odd game out in the United States and the best one by a long way was Colombia’s fantastic 5-0 win over Panama two days ago.

Former Real Madrid and Everton star James Rodriguez was sensational for Colombia, bagging two assists and a goal.

It was a stunning attacking display from Nestor Lorenzo’s men, and they ripped Panama apart from start to finish.

However, despite the brilliance on display on the pitch, it was something in the crowd that really caught my eye…

West Ham are massive…in Colombia Copa America crowd

As the song goes, ‘West Ham are massive, everywhere we go’.

Whilst we sing that song in jest with a sprinkling of sarcasm, this time it seems like the Hammers actually are…massive!

Fans will be scratching their heads thinking, ‘how on earth can West Ham be linked to Colombia playing in the Copa America?’

The cameras panned up to the Colombia end of the State Farm Stadium in Arizona, during their 5-0 win over Panama on Saturday.

And the Hammers fans will not believe their eyes at something spotted in amongst the joyful Colombia fans:

That really is incredible to see! The away shirt from the 1992/93 season with the iconic Dagenham Motors sponsor on the front.

Now, Colombia played a friendly against Spain at the London Stadium back in March, so perhaps that particular fan went to that game and picked up a shirt there?

The only other link I can think of is the fact that Colombian duo Pablo Armero and Carlos Sanchez both played for the Hammers. Perhaps that fan has a connection to one of those players?

Of course there is one more reason why the Colombia fan was wearing a retro West Ham shirt during the Copa America clash with Panama.

And that is that West Ham are massive, everywhere we go…
