West Ham United manager David Moyes made an utterly rubbish claim to reporters during his pre-match press conference yesterday.
David Moyes is currently under real pressure in his role as West Ham boss , having overseen three defats in a row, and another three consecutive losses allegedly could see him lose his job.
The Hammers have failed to get going since the end of the last international break, and the fans have started to get on Moyes’s back.
The football that West Ham have been playing recently is utterly dire. It’s slow, turgid to watch and the players clearly want to be playing a more expansive, exciting brand of football.
However, Moyes clearly doesn’t see it that way…

West Ham fans will be utterly gobsmacked by what David Moyes just said about playing style
Moyes addressed the media yesterday ahead of our Carabao Cup clash tonight.
And the Scot responded when asked why his team have been struggling so badly recently, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“I think we’re changing in ourselves. We’re playing a more expansive and open game than we have before, which in some ways is good. We’re trying to look to open things up a bit more. Again, though, there are some Premier League games where it will be very hard, and there will be some games where you’ll have more of the ball and can try other ways. We’re certainly trying to do that and I think we’ve shown some good signs in the first part of the season. We’re trying to find the way of becoming a little bit more open and get some more attacks. The last couple of games, we’ve not made the chances, which is a surprise to me more than anything because that’s not been the way we’ve been working. That’s the bit we need to keep working on.”
Wow, just wow…words fail me.
Anyone who has watched West Ham this season will know that we definitely haven’t been playing in a more attacking, explosive or free-flowing style.
If anything, Moyes has gone back to his old ways and reintroduced the counter attacking system at the start of the campaign.
The Scot had some early success with that but it seems as though we’ve been found out again, and as usual, he doesn’t have a plan B.
The Hammers have averaged 40.9% possession this season – the fourth lowest in the Premier League – compared to 42.1% last term (Fbref).
That stat proves that West Ham boss David Moyes is in no way trying to transform his side into a more possession based team. It’s obvious that the Scot has gone back to what he knows best – counter-attacking, defensive football.
I’m just utterly gobsmacked that he suggested that he has tried to deploy a more exciting, attacking system at West Ham this season, because it quite simply isn’t true.
