West Ham United fans have reacted after their Premier League survival hopes took a huge dent over the course of a damaging weekend.

Indeed, West Ham are now heavy favourites to get relegated from the Premier League following their defeat to Brentford and Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa.

What a sorry old mess 😪 How have we let it slip AGAIN?!

While West Ham should still have hope of avoiding relegation, what happened in the 35th round of Premier League fixtures was clearly an unwelcome development.

One point off safety with only three games left to play, readers and subscribers to Hammers News are feeling rather low about it all.

The events of the past few days prompted Hammers News to ask their readers and subscribers on TalkingPoints a very simple question.

West Ham fans think relegation is imminent

The website asked: “On a scale of 1-10, how confident are you about staying up now?”

The response was reasonably mixed, although – perhaps unsurprisingly – it veered towards the more negative side of things.

One fan wrote: “3”.

“It pains me to say it, but 0,” read another comment.

Another supporter added: “1.”

“About 5. I think 3 more points will be enough,” was another response.

One subscriber added: “3 at best.”

This supporter’s verdict read: “No chance.”

A more positive response, meanwhile, read: “6 still have faith that we can pull off the great escape 2.”

Though no one is throwing the towel in just yet, it’s clear that the overriding mood is one of pessimism here in east London and beyond.

Momentum has been halted and dreams threatened to be crushed. That is the sad reality of where the team are right now and it is understandable that supporters are starting to think the Championship awaits.

Still, there is no other option than to respond. There is only one point in it, with nine points left to play for.

A bruising weekend leaves West Ham in the most perilous position they have been in for years, there is little shying away from that fact.

The Premier League table paints a bleak picture right now and there is not much time to flip the script back into West Ham’s favour once again.
