West Ham fans in debate about Dinos Mavropanos or Jean-Clair Todibo and there’s a slight winner

Hammers News have recently asked West Ham United who they’d prefer to see partner Axel Disasi in central defence between Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo.

The notion of West Ham United actually having strength in depth when it comes to defensive positions would have been an alien one not long ago.

However, Disasi has proven to be a successful signing at West Ham, even if these are still early days in his career here in east London.

Both Mavropanos and Todibo, meanwhile, have impressed supporters in recent weeks.

As such Hammers News asked our followers on Facebook which player they’d ideally like to partner Disasi for the final nine games of the Premier League season.

Mavropanos appeared to edge it.

Todibo impressed for West Ham against Fulham, having come into the team for Mavropanos.

Still, the Greek international has been one of West Ham’s recent success stories and he drew slightly more support from our audience.

“Big Mav for me,” wrote one fan.

Another wrote: “Dinos.”

“Go Kostadinos, the West Ham fortress and the rock of Gibraltar, legendary player and I support you wherever you play because I know you give a 100% commitment to West Ham,” was a particularly strong comment.

“I’d have Dinos and Disasi,” said another supporter.

Another response read: “Mavropanos.”

That’s not to say Todibo didn’t get a share of support, though.

“Todibo. He is not as error prone as my compatriot Greek defender,” wrote one fan.

Another said: “Todibo. Better player and communication.”

“Todibo every time,” wrote one fan.

Another supporter said: “Todibo. Pace and reading of the game is excellent and Disasi is good in the air.”

Mavropanos and Todibo statistics compared

Assuming Disasi starts every Premier League game between now and the end of the campaign, Mavropanos and Todibo have quite the fight on their hands for a regular berth.

As such, it’s worth looking at a comparison of the two.

As per WhoScored data, it’s a very tight battle.

Mavropanos wins, on average, more aerial duels (2.3 to 1.2) and interceptions (1.3 to 0.7) per game.

Todibo, on the other hand, wins more tackles (1.8 to 1.1) over the same period and boasts a better passing success rate (87.6% to 83.1%).

For West Ham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, merely having this kind of team selection headache is a sign of significant progress.
