Danny Mills belittled the idea of West Ham playing in the Champions League next season when speaking on talkSPORT last night.
And some Hammers fans absolutely battered the supposed pundit on Twitter for his pathetic comments.
Let’s be honest here. talkSPORT make a living out of winding us up. West Ham are an easy target. We all know it.
It’s still hard to ignore, however.
Especially when people like Danny Mills come out with such ludicrous statements.
The so-called pundit said yesterday:
“They’ve expanded it for the sake of expansion. No one’s really interested after the first four games because half of it’s done and dusted by that stage. People want to watch the knockout stages. The whole point of the Champions League is to see the best teams playing each other. I don’t think it should be the top four in the country go through. Let’s say West Ham get in the Champions League in fourth spot. That’s not Champions League.”
The West Ham fans were fuming when they heard Mills’ remarks. And rightly so.
If we finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League it will be throughly deserved.
In fact, it could actually be argued that the Hammers would add so much to the competition what with our incredible travelling support.
Whether Mills intentionally riled the West Ham fans is neither here nor there. His comments were just unnecessary and disrespectful.
The opinion that only the Champions of each league should qualify for Europe’s premier competition is fine. There was just no need to bring the Hammers into it.
