West Ham continue to be inactive in the January transfer window, whilst clubs like Aston Villa are going all out to strengthen their ranks.
French publication Le 10 Sport claim that Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of 23-year-old midfielder Matteo Guendouzi from Marseille.

However, my question is why on earth are West Ham sitting back and watching this happen?

Guendouzi would be a superb addition for the Hammers in my opinion. But it seems as though he isn’t even on David Moyes’ radar.
West Ham have signed Danny Ings this month, coincidentally from Aston Villa. Meanwhile, the Villans have added Jhon Duran and Alex Moreno to their ranks. They aren’t done yet either, with a move to sign Guendouzi in the pipeline…
West Ham transfer window struggles continue as Aston Villa aim high
As Villa close in on Matteo Guendouzi, the Hammers seem to be twiddling their thumbs in the transfer market.
He has ben described as an ‘incredibly progressive’ player, and a very good passer of the football (Breaking the Lines).
Foot Mercato claim that Marseille want around €30 million (£26 million) for the 23-year-old former Arsenal midfielder.

That’s great value as far as I’m concerned, and West Ham should be all over it.
Declan Rice will almost certainly leave the London Stadium in the summer, whilst a big upgrade on Tomas Soucek is required urgently.
Guendouzi would be absolutely perfect for West Ham in my opinion. He has energy and stamina to burn and is a really tenacious tackler, as well as being a superb passer of the football.
For just £26 million, the Hammers should have gone all out to sign the Frenchman.
However, it appears as though Aston Villa are closing in on obtaining his signature in the January transfer window. That’s just not good enough from West Ham in my opinion.
