West Ham technical director Tim Steidten has lifted the lid on what he thinks about the signing of Kalvin Phillips from Man City.
Midfielder Kalvin Phillips joined West Ham on loan from Man City in the January window.
It was seen as a good move for all parties – West Ham, Manchester City, the player and England.
It came after a torrid 18 months at Man City where he has barely kicked a ball under Pep Guardiola.
And it’s fair to say it has showed in his two appearances for the Hammers thus far.
Phillips has endured a difficult start since leaving Man City for east London, gifting Bournemouth a goal just two minutes into his West Ham debut.

Steidten on what he thinks about Phillips signing
He struggled in the game and was then substituted by David Moyes in the second half – offering an apologetic gesture to West Ham fans as he left the field.
Dropped to the bench by Moyes for the game against Man United, Phillips came on as a sub and gave the ball away which led to another goal.
Reports last month claimed Moyes was the one who pushed to sign Phillips against the wishes of some of the West Ham hierarchy.
Some are questioning whether West Ham really needed Phillips given the priorities they had in other areas during the window.
And he is already – rather ridiculously – being written off as a disaster in some quarters.
Now we know what the man leading the club’s recruitment thinks of the signing.

‘We were looking for a leader’
West Ham director Tim Steidten has lifted the lid on what he thinks about the Phillips signing from Man City.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports Germany, Steidten said West Ham wanted Phillips as a new leader.
And he is backing him to come good.
“We were looking for someone who is also a leader,” Steidten said.
“We have known him for a long time.
“The conversations were very good.
“I believe it will work out well.”
Let’s hope things click for Phillips at West Ham soon – starting against Arsenal and Declan Rice this weekend.
