West Ham United could benefit hugely from the 10 point deduction received by Everton after they broke FFP rules.
Everton were punished by the Premier League last week for overspending and breaking Financial Fair Play rules in the process, and an ex-West Ham director was on the independent panel which ruled against them.
The 10 point punishment plunged the Toffees into relegation trouble, with their 14 point haul quickly becoming just four!
And now Hammers boss David Moyes could take advantage of the Merseyside outfit’s plight..
That’s because talkSPORT are claiming that Everton could be forced into selling Amadou Onana in order to ease their financial woes.
West Ham were heavily linked with a move to sign the 22-year-old in the summer of 2022, but he chose to join Everton in a £33.5 million deal in the end.
It’s such a shame that we didn’t push harder for him 15 months ago, but it is what it is.
That said, the Hammers may have a second bite at the cherry now…
Everton FFP woes could be about to get worse
If the Toffees are forced into selling Onana, West Ham should be at the front of the queue for the Belgian’s signature.
The former Lille midfielder would be the perfect addition to our central midfield ranks and he’d be a truly huge upgrade on Tomas Soucek.
Onana is the same height as the Czech Republic international but is streets ahead when it comes to his technical ability and range of passing.
The Belgium international has pace and power in abundance, and his physicality and box-to-box nature in the middle of the park would be the ideal compliment to James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez.
If Everton are forced to sell Onana in the January transfer window because of their FFP problems, and West Ham are able to sign him, it would rub salt into the Toffees’ wounds.
The addition of a top-class striker, an elite right-back and Onana in January would take the Hammers to another level entirely. Whether the board are prepared to back Moyes to that extent remains to be seen though.
