West Ham United’s clash with Newcastle United is set to be called off in wake of Her Majesty the Queen’s passing says an insider.

The world was brought to a standstill yesterday when it was confirmed the Queen had passed away aged 96.

Queen Elizabeth II opened West Ham’s redeveloped West Stand at Upton Park and was said to have been a Hammers fan.

Authorities did consider calling off West Ham’s Europa Conference League game against FCSB last night.

But it was announced by West Ham that the game would go ahead and a minute’s silence would be held instead.

West Ham fans took it on themselves to turn that into a magnificent round of applause and sang God Save The Queen.

The Hammers went into the FCSB game with one eye on the Premier League clash with Newcastle on Sunday.

David Moyes made seven changes to his side with the Hammers seriously needing a win against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle to get out of the relegation places.

West Ham came from behind to win 3-1 on a sombre night in east London.

Now attentions turn to whether the game against the Magpies will go ahead in just over 48 hours’ time.

And West Ham’s clash with Newcastle is set to be called off in wake of Queen’s passing says an insider.

Hammers website 6foot2 claims club insiders have told them that West Ham vs Newcastle will be rearranged as the country mourns Her Majesty.

“West Ham’s home Premier League game with Newcastle United this Sunday at the London Stadium will almost definitely be postponed 6foot2 understand,” the site reports.

“Club insiders tonight confirmed to 6foot2 that their current understanding from the football authorities is that football fixtures this weekend will be postponed.”

An official announcement is expected this morning and will be confirmed by the Premier League.
