West Ham clarify Summerville release clause amid Spurs vs Man United tussle

West Ham have moved to clarify the clause in Crysencio Summerville’s contract after claims he can leave for a knockdown price amid a battle between Spurs and Man United to sign him.

The Hammers were always resigned to losing Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville if they suffered relegation from the Premier League – as long as it was on Daniel Kretinsky’s terms.

So it should come as no surprise that West Ham have already sold Fernandes for a whopping £85m to Tottenham after they beat Manchester United to his signature.

West Ham clarify ‘complicated’ Summerville release clause

Dutch winger Summerville will follow Fernandes out of the London Stadium exit as Manchester United and Spurs enter into a new transfer battle for another West Ham star.

Other clubs are interested but it is Man United and bitter rivals Tottenham who are most serious right now.

Hammers News exclusively revealed that West Ham fans will love Summerville’s response to Spurs and Man United as a move gathers momentum following Holland’s exit from the World Cup.

Many West Ham fans were deeply unhappy about selling Fernandes to Spurs, 12 months on from breaking an unofficial 15-year transfer embargo between the two clubs by selling Mohammed Kudus to the north London outfit.

So the prospect of seeing Summerville join Tottenham over Man United too is a grim one for Hammers supporters.

Especially if it is for a knockdown fee.

TEAMtalk has reported that Summerville has a paltry £40m relegation release clause in his West Ham contract.

The report claims the clause essentially leaves the Hammers in a poor negotiating position to get much more than that amount – which is just £14m more than they paid Leeds for the flying Dutchman.

Summerville clause higher but still restricts valuation

Hammers News has spoken to a leading source at the London Stadium about the situation.

And while there is indeed a release clause, the situation is – in the words of the source – “a lot more complex” as West Ham clarify the Summerville situation amid the tussle between Spurs and Man United.

It was put to the senior Hammers source whether the reports that Summerville has a £40m release clause are true.

The response was very interesting indeed – but it is clear West Ham will be restricted as to how much they can get for the electric winger.

“The specific details of the clause are confidential,” the top West Ham source exclusively told Hammers News.

“But it is far more complicated than has been reported and in reality it is really £50m.”

So there you have it Hammers fans, West Ham will struggle to command much more than £50m for Summerville given the clause.

The only way they might be able to eke out more is if the likes of PSG and others make it an auction over and above that £50m release clause fee.

West Ham are eyeing Everton’s Dwight McNeil and Leicester’s Abdul Fatawu as potential replacements for Summerville.
