West Ham United manager David Moyes spoke to reporters ahead of our Europa League clash with Freiburg tonight.
David Moyes will be desperate for his West Ham side to beat Freiburg in the Europa League tonight, and progress through to the quarter-finals of the competition in the process.
The Hammers lost 1-0 in the first-leg out in Germany last week, and the players will need the fans behind us tonight if they are to overturn the one-goal deficit.
However, West Ham are struggling to sell out the London Stadium tonight, with the 5:45 pm kick-off causing problems.
We’ve had our Stratford home rocking before – most notably during our Europa League clash with Sevilla in 2022.
And we will need to replicate that tonight, if we are to have any chance of progressing through against Freiburg.
However, it will be important for the players to put in a performance that we can all get behind as well. But where does Moyes stand on that particular matter?
The Scot spoke to reporters last night ahead of the huge clash with Freiburg.
And Moyes responded when asked how he wants his players to approach the game tonight, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“It’s always important in football to make a fast start, but the most important thing is how it ends up. So we’ll do everything to start the game very well and we’ll plan to be on the front foot as early as we possibly can be.”
One thing’s for sure, Moyes has never been so bullish when speaking to the media about the need for his team to begin the game on the front foot.
In times gone by, Moyes has insisted that results are all that matter, and he has openly admitted that he doesn’t deploy the most attractive brand of football.
The only time that the Scot ever sets up his side on the front foot, and tells his players to make a fast start, is when he’s close to losing his job. Just look at the home win against Brentford a couple of weeks ago, and the victories against Nottingham Forest and Everton last season at the London Stadium.
Sure, we have plenty of time to get the job done tonight, but a quick start will be crucial in my view.
I think we’ll win the game tonight comfortably, but the players will 100% need the fans behind them.
If Moyes is to guide his West Ham side to a big win over Freiburg tonight, I believe a fast start will be necessary, if we are to ruffle their feathers.
