The West Ham board have made their stance clear on the Man City situation as their “big six” rivals push for Premier League expulsion.

Fans of clubs like West Ham and the so-called “Other 14” have long bemoaned the ridiculous spending power of some of their Premier League rivals.

Many Hammers fans see themselves in Manchester City supporters in that they follow a traditional club who spent much of their history in the shadow of rivals. And the hope for many is that, like Man City, their club will one day get their own day in the sun.

But the continued dominance and influence of clubs such as Man City, PSG and Chelsea in terms of transfer spending means competing for top honours is – realistically – near impossible for the likes of West Ham.

Man City are at the centre of a huge developing story in the Premier League this week.

The defending champions said on Monday they were “surprised” to have been charged by the Premier League with 101 alleged breaches of financial rules spanning from 2009/10 to 2017/18.

The Premier League’s most severe punishment in these circumstances would be to expel Man City and it has been reported that the English Football League would be under no obligation to accept them.

West Ham are no stranger to being reprimanded by the Premier League. They were infamously fined what somehow remains a world record £5.5m by the Premier League for breaches of third party player ownership rules as a result of the Carlos Tevez affair under previous ownership.

West Ham were also ordered to pay Sheffield United around £18m in compensation.

The allegations against Man City are far more serious. The world and its wife seems to be having its say on the issue and what the repercussions should be if the Etihad side are found guilty of the breaches.

Sky Sports claim Man City’s “big six” rivals want them ‘kicked out’ of the Premier League if guilty of the alleged financial breaches.

“The clubs who had been pressing hardest for action until Monday were some other members of the so-called ‘big six’ – which includes Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham,” Sky Sports reports.

But where do the Hammers stand on the issue?

Well the West Ham board has made its stance clear on the Man City situation as “big six” rivals push for Premier League expulsion.

Speaking to Hammers News, a source close to the West Ham board is taking a more considered view.

“The big six are (pushing for expulsion),” a top West Ham board source told Hammers News.

“But we are happy for an independent panel to decide, ie Due Process.”
