West Ham are very keen to appoint English manager with 47% win rate if Nuno Espirito Santo is sacked

Nuno Espirito Santo’s future as West Ham United manager is far from secure right now.

It was back in September when Nuno was brought in to replace Graham Potter at West Ham.

However, the Hammers’ situation in the Premier League table looks just as bleak now as it did four months ago.

The former Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham manager has failed to have the impact that was expected of him at the London Stadium.

If you could replace Nuno with one out-of-work manager, who are you picking?

And why?

As a result, Nuno has already been touted for the sack and that is no surprise given the poor performances he has overseen since his appointment.

West Ham haven’t won since November 8th and Nuno has taken just 11 points from the 15 Premier League games he has presided over for the Hammers.

The football has been dire and the players seem to be totally checked out.

Worryingly, many West Ham players are not even putting in the effort now, and that’s when you know there is trouble in the camp.

West Ham very keen to appoint Michael Carrick if Nuno is sacked

Michael Carrick is someone who has been persistently linked with the West Ham hot-seat over the past two years now.

Now, talkSPORT are reporting that he is high on the Hammers’ list as a potential replacement for Nuno, if the Portuguese is indeed sacked.

It has also been claimed that former boss Slaven Bilic is being eyed to replace Nuno on a short-term basis.

However, the Croatian is not the only potential new manager who the West Ham board are keeping tabs on.

Carrick was tipped to replace David Moyes at West Ham when the Scot left the club back in May 2024.

At the time, Carrick was doing really well at Middlesbrough.

However, the 44-year-old was moved on by Boro in June 2025 following a 10th place finish in the Championship.

Carrick implemented an attractive, possession-based style of football at The Riverside, but it amounted to little in the end as his team failed to secure promotion to the Premier League.

In 139 games as a manager, Carrick has a win record of 47%, while he’s drawn 25 games and lost 49 (Sofascore).

Hammers fans will obviously be very familiar with Carrick.

He spent six years at Upton Park before joining Tottenham in 2004.

Carrick was a popular figure with West Ham fans, until he left to join Tottenham, of course!

Michael Carrick would be a risky appointment for West Ham

His lack of success in football management, and indeed experience, means that he would be a hugely risky appointment right now.

Humiliation at Molineux…

Where does this rank among West Ham's WORST ever Premier League defeats?

Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United appears dejected during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United at Molineux on January 03, 2026 in Wolverhampton, England.

Attractive football is of zero importance whatsoever at the moment.

What matters is finding a way to secure back-to-back wins or at least getting points on the board consistently.

That all starts with a manager who knows how to get things done and the fact of the matter is Nuno is far more well-positioned to do that at West Ham than Carrick.

Carrick has been out of work since he was sacked from Middlesbrough and that in itself tells us all we need to know.

If the Hammers owners are going to make a short-term managerial change, they will have to bring in someone who knows how to extricate teams from relegation trouble.

Whisper it quietly, but Sean Dyche could be out of a job soon…
