West Ham ace Declan Rice busts yet another lazy myth!

He has made more passes into the final third and more progressive ball carries than any other Premier League midfielder so far this season.

Not bad for a player who only passes backwards and sideways eh!

The 22-year-old West Ham midfielder is a huge fan favourite at the London Stadium.

Rice is the most important player David Moyes has at his disposal at West Ham. Us Hammers fans all know how good he is.

It seems as though the rest of England are starting to wake up and smell the coffee as well…but there are those who still don’t appreciate his true brilliance.

Many opposing fans seem to think that Rice is a one trick pony who only passes backwards or sideways.

Some of the so-called pundits have been at it as well. Roy Keane suggested that Dec wasn’t good enough in an England game earlier this year:

“He takes too many touches at the back. Rice is coming back, doing nothing. He’s coming back and giving sidewards passes. Not good enough.”

Gary Neville was another one. The former Manchester United man suggested that Rice hasn’t got the attacking attributes needed to become a truly elite midfielder (Football.London).

What a load of old rubbish.

And now there is evidence and proof to completely debunk that myth.

The 22-year-old has made more passes into the final third (49) and more ball carries into the final third (20) than any other Premier League midfielder this season:

It has been a pleasure watching Declan evolve into a truly elite player over the past few years.

He is now arguably the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League and there is a case to be made for him being number one in world football as well.

If we are to make genuine progress as a football club, keeping Rice at the London Stadium will be vitally important.

And we think there is every chance West Ham will be able to do just that with David Moyes leading this exciting young team in a very promising direction.
