‘We didn’t know what to do’: West Ham ace summons spirit of 2017 ahead of Tottenham clash

Angelo Ogbonna has summoned up the spirit of 2017 ahead of the Tottenham vs West Ham clash on Sunday afternoon.

West Ham United head to North London to take on Tottenham this weekend for a game that is absolutely huge for both sides.

Spurs need to win in order to keep pace in the race for the Champions League spots, whilst West Ham need a result in order to move away from the relegation zone.

Clashes between the two London rivals have always been incredibly entertaining. There was the 3-3 back in 2020 when the Hammers came back from 3-0 down to steal a point after an injury time Manuel Lanzini thunderbolt

Go back a bit further and there was the dramatic 4-3 win for West Ham at Upton Park in 1997. However, many Hammers fans would argue that the best game against one of our fiercest rivals was back in 2017…

Angelo Ogbonna reflects on West Ham win over Tottenham in 2017

The Italian scored the winning goal for the Hammers in our 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Spurs at Wembley Stadium back in 2017.

West Ham were 2-0 down at half-time but produced a miraculous comeback with goals from Andre Ayew (2), and then Ogbonna.

And the 34-year-old told WHUFC.com how he would love to see a repeat of that day on Sunday:

“At half-time, we were 2-0 down and the dressing room was so quiet. We didn’t know what to do. After that, we came back, and I scored the last goal, the winner. It was unbelievable. The atmosphere was crazy too. I wish to get another goal like that on Sunday. It was a really good moment for me and for the Club.” 

Oh how I would love to see the same thing happen when West Ham face Tottenham on Sunday.

A win would be absolutely priceless for us, considering our current circumstances.
