West Ham take on Southampton in a relegation six-pointer with so much at stake.

The tightest Premier League relegation battle in history will undoubtedly be decided by small margins.

So David Moyes will need every one of his top players fit and firing during a hectic run-in to the season.

Ahead of West Ham’s clash with Southampton, Moyes delivered a worrying update on £35m striker Gianluca Scamacca.

The Scot revealed Scamacca had returned from international duty with Italy feeling the knee he injured back in January.

As a result he was a serious doubt for the Saints clash.

Now video shows West Ham star Scamacca ‘leaving’ the London Stadium before the huge clash with Southampton.

Sky Sports have posted a video which they say shows Scamacca leaving the ground ahead of kick off.

“It looks like he might be leaving the London Stadium,” the Sky Sports presenter said as video showed Scamacca in a tracksuit with the hood up near the player exit doors.

“He was a doubt for their massive game against Southampton because of a knee injury. At this stage it does not look like he is going to be fit enough.”

Scamacca is seen smiling and waving as he makes his way towards the exit in the video, which you can see in the post below.

It is a shame he has not stuck around to watch the game and cheer on his teammates if he has indeed left the ground.

But there may be a perfectly good reason for that.

If Scamacca underwent a fitness test ahead of the match he has either failed it or West Ham have decided not to risk him.

That is probably a very wise move indeed given the club has nine matches in 27 days during April.
