Video has emerged online showing what West Ham United star Kalvin Phillips did to Man United fans abusing him.

Kalvin Phillips’ inauspicious start to life at West Ham continued in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.

The midfielder joined the Hammers on loan from Man City in the January window.

But he has endured a difficult start, gifting Bournemouth a goal just two minutes into his West Ham debut.

It was clear Phillips has not seen much football over the last 18 months and he was then substituted by David Moyes in the second half – offering an apologetic gesture to West Ham fans as he left the field.

Phillips offered Man United supporters a very different gesture when he was warming up on the sidelines during West Ham’s 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

Dropped to the bench by Moyes, Phillips had to run the gauntlet of Red Devils fans. Hardly a fun experience for a player who has represented two of Man United’s biggest rivals in Leeds United and Manchester City.

When Phillips returned to Man City from the Qatar World Cup just over a year ago, Pep Guardiola publicly stated he had arrived ‘overweight’ and ‘not in a condition to train or play’.

The comments have haunted Phillips ever since when it comes to providing opposition fans with plenty of ammunition.

Hammers star responded to chants

The home crowd taunted Phillips by chanting for him to show them his – what us cockneys would call – ‘thrupenny bits’.

Video posted online shows Phillips respond by lifting up his top to do just that – showing his lean physique with a wry smile.

The gesture earned the England man hearty applause from the home crowd.

You can see the video in the post below.

It was all a bit of light-hearted fun. The best way to deal with these things sometimes is to kill them with kindness.

And that’s exactly what Phillips did here.

Unfortunately Phillips again gave the ball away which led to a goal when he did get on the pitch.

But he has the character and class to come through this tough period and be a key player for West Ham during the last 14 games of the season.

Hopefully starting against Declan Rice and Arsenal this Sunday.

What wasn’t light-hearted was the abuse of Vladimir Coufal following the incident which has seen Lisandro Martinez sidelined for two months. Coufal has been forced to lock down his social media due to abuse and threats.
