Much has been said and written about Crysencio Summerville’s injury situation at West Ham but now the highest authority on the matter has spoken.
When Graham Potter arrived at West Ham, he made it clear Crysencio Summerville was one of the players who excited him most.
Summerville starred in the first half of Potter’s first match, a harsh 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.
Bowing out at the first hurdle effectively ended West Ham’s season that day.
But little did Potter or Hammers fans know it would end Summerville’s season too.
What Potter initially said was a precautionary substitution turned out to be much more serious.
Summerville’s West Ham injury nightmare
Summerville was told he required an operation.
But the £26m Dutchman elected to heal naturally instead.
The 23-year-old actually made a return to training around six weeks later – but suffered a major setback.
Since then he has tried again to let the hamstring injury heal naturally – much to the frustration of West Ham.
Summerville posted pictures training abroad a few weeks ago.
Around that time club sources revealed the news the winger had decided against having an op.

At the time the Hammers admitted it could results in Summerville being out even longer or the issue reoccurring.
The West Ham ace relented on his decision, though, deciding to have surgery this week.
Summerville took to social media to share the news.
West Ham then confirmed the Summerville news nobody wanted to hear.
A top club source revealed the recovery would keep the player out until into next season.
The source told Hammers News he would not return until mid-August.
Top medic makes crushing admission about Summerville
The new season starts on August 16, so fans have been bracing themselves to be without Summerville until well into September.
With Potter set to be under big pressure from the off next season, the last thing he needs is to be without a key component to the team in pre-season.
Especially as West Ham’s attack has been so lacklustre under the Englishman.
Some hoped the club source’s predicted return date was a nod to when he would be available to play rather than just return to training.
But now a top medic has made a crushing admission about the operation for West Ham star Summerville.

Chief Hammers medic confirms Summerville out into next season
Richard Collinge is the Performance Director at West Ham and oversees the medical department.
He has been speaking about Summerville’s operation and recovery plan.
And unfortunately Collinge has confirmed the winger won’t return until ‘next season’ rather than for pre-season.
Collinge did, however, deliver some good news. The operation itself was a success.
“The surgery has gone well,” Collinge said on West Ham’s website.
“Crysencio will now concentrate on his recovery and rehabilitation here at Rush Green, with the aim of working towards his return next season.”
It means that in total, Summerville will have missed more than eight months of first team action if he returns to the team some time in September after his own belated pre-season.
It’s far from ideal for Potter or the club.
But with little to play for this season, Summerville and West Ham just need to concentrate on getting him back to his best – something the player himself says he is determined to do.
“Hammers, it wasn’t the season we hoped for, but we will be back next season to give our all for the club and the fans,” Summerville said on his Instagram Stories this week.
“On a personal note I will focus on my recovery and my comeback now and I can’t wait to be back and show you guys the magic you’ve been waiting for.
“I hope to see you guys soon! CS. COYI.”
