West Ham United play host to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday night.

Both West Ham and Newcastle are in desperate need of all three points in the upcoming Premier League clash.

Graham Potter will be looking to guide his side to a third successive Premier League win in order to keep alive the Hammers’ hopes of a top 10 finish.

Meanwhile, nothing less than a win will do for Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, if he is to bring Champions League football back to St James’ Park.

Howe will be missing a whole host of key players for the West Ham vs Newcastle clash, so the Tyneside outfit will already be up against it.

Meanwhile, Potter has been handed a big boost with the news that Lucas Paqueta could return to action for West Ham against the Magpies.

That’s not to say that the Hammers should underestimate the visitors – they have a great record against us at the London Stadium.

We haven’t beaten them at home since March 2019! Hopefully that will all change on Monday though.

Newcastle will be fuming with the Premier League ahead of West Ham

The Hammers will never have a better chance of beating Newcastle, with so many of their key players set to miss the game.

And now there has been yet another blow for the Toon ahead of the match.

The Premier League have confirmed that Michael Salisbury will referee the Hammers vs Magpies clash on Monday night.

Now, that’s really bad news for the Toon, as they have a checkered past with the 40-year-old ref.

Newcastle lodged an official complaint against Salisbury back in September 2022, when (Daily Mail).

The Magpies drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace, but were denied victory after a Tyrick Mitchell own goal was ruled out for a foul by Joe Willock on Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

However, subsequent replays showed that Willock was pushed into Guaita by Mitchell in the build-up.

Despite that, VAR official Lee Mason still told referee Michael Salisbury to visit his monitor, where he overturned his original decision and disallowed the goal.

Salisbury’s decision to go along with. VAR’s recommendation was a pathetic display of cowardice, and the Newcastle fans have held a grudge against him ever since.

Michael Salisbury’s West Ham and Newcastle records

Everything seems to be going against the Toon ahead of their clash with us on Monday.

West Ham have won two, drawn one and lost two of the five games officiated by Salisbury.

Meanwhile, the 40-year-old has refereed three games involving Newcastle, and the north-east outfit have failed to win a single one of them (Transfermarkt).

Whilst that record won’t actually mean anything on the night, footballers are a superstitious bunch, and they will definitely be aware of who the man in the middle is!

With Michael Salisbury being named as the referee for the West Ham vs Newcastle Premier League clash, Eddie Howe, his players and the Toons fans will surely not be happy one little bit.
