West Ham United boss David Moyes today told reporters that now is the time for Issa Diop to step up, as quoted by Football.London.

The 24-year-old, signed from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for £25 million according to The Express, has barely played for the Hammers this season.

In fact, he has made just four Premier League appearances this term.

It seems as though Diop now has a great opportunity to make one of the centre-back positions at the London Stadium his own again, however.

Angelo Ogbonna is out for around a month with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Fabian Balbuena is a doubt for Monday’s clash with Sheffield United.

Time to shine for Issa Diop

The 24-year-old Frenchman, who earns £62k-a-week according to Football League FC, is almost certain to play against the Blades on Monday.

And David Moyes told reporters today that it’s time for Diop to step up to the plate, as quoted by Football.London:

“It certainly is his time to step up. He is someone we really like and value so I am hoping he can step up.”

Diop has so much quality. He is still very rough around the edges, but he has all of the basic ingredients needed to go on and become a truly top class centre-back.

Diop clearly needs a regular run of games to rediscover his rhythm and form.

West Ham certainly need him to find his best stuff again with Ogbonna out for the foreseeable future.

As Moyes said, now is Issa Diop’s time to shine. Let’s just hope that he is up to the challenge.
