Telegraph claim Ajax and Milan target is now planned replacement for David Moyes at West Ham

The Telegraph has claimed an Ajax and Milan target is now the planned replacement for David Moyes at West Ham.

Earlier this week it was claimed West Ham chief David Sullivan has effectively given David Moyes four games to save his job.

That’s despite the top source inside the club telling Hammers News just one week ago that the Scot would be signing a new West Ham deal ‘subject to terms’.

West Ham’s biggest home league defeat for 61 years has clearly changed the landscape.

Moyes is once again under pressure to stay in the Hammers hotseat.

Telegraph claim Potter is now planned Moyes replacement

Now a fresh claim has been made about his future and potential successor.

The Telegraph claim an Ajax and Milan target is now the planned replacement for Moyes at West Ham.

Matt Law reports that Moyes will ‘almost certainly depart’ West Ham if he fails to turn results around over the next four games.

And he states that former Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter will be his likely replacement.

Law reports that European giants Ajax and AC Milan want Potter too. He also says the Hammers hierarchy feel the club’s fans would appreciate Potter’s style of play.

Steidten will appoint any successor

“Moyes will be expected to turnaround West Ham’s form and results over those (next four) games, three of which are against relegation battlers, and failure to do so will almost certainly lead to his departure…” The Telegraph reports.

“Given complaints over his pragmatic style, West Ham fans would most likely back a move to make (Graham) Potter his successor, despite the 48-year-old’s dismissal by Chelsea last year.

“His time at Chelsea, during which he led the team into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, has been given context by the club’s continual struggles since his departure last April.

“Potter has also been linked to AC Milan by Italian media and been mentioned as a contender to take over at Ajax in Holland.”

Willingness to work with Steidten will be key

The report states that should Moyes depart, technical director Tim Steidten will be in charge of appointing his replacement.

So it is clear – should that situation arise – whoever the Hammers bring in, must accept that Steidten will be calling the shots on transfers.

That is currently not the case behind the scenes at West Ham. Moyes still has ultimate power of veto on any transfer.

That happened over several deals in the summer and in January when Moyes pushed back on Steidten and Mark Noble’s desire to sign Ibrahim Osman only for Brighton to then agree a £16m move ahead of the summer window.

With Steidten publicly flirting with the idea of joining Liverpool, should Moyes stay it could well dictate the German’s own future.
