Super Tomas Soucek ditches the famous potato salad for a trip to Salt Bae on West Ham United’s day off on Monday.
West Ham made it five wins in a row when they beat Aston Villa 4-1 at Villa Park on Sunday.
It has been a gruelling schedule for West Ham at home and abroad so far this season but David Moyes and his squad have handled it masterfully so far.
Moyes told Sky Sports he would be giving his players Monday off after the victory before focusing on the next challenge, Genk away in the Europa League.
Win that – or possibly even just draw – and West Ham will seal top spot in Group H and a place in the last 16.
West Ham fans are loving life right now. And so too are the players.
So it was lovely to see humble workhorse and Hammer of the Year super Tomas Soucek getting a chance to let his hair down as he visited Salt Bae’s London restaurant on West Ham’s day off.
Soucek is key to everything West Ham do.
He is an absolute grafter in the heart of Moyes’s midfield alongside Declan Rice and is one of the most popular players across the Premier League with fans of West Ham, rival clubs and pundits.
And Moyes has credited him – and Czech mate Vladimir Coufal – with helping change the professionalism, workrate and attitude at West Ham.
He famously gave an interview after a game last Christmas where he revealed his guilty pleasure was to reward himself with his favourite dish, Czech potato salad.
Well Soucek ditched the potato salad on Monday and rewarded himself with a nice juicy steak at the world renowned Salt Bae restaurant in London.
Since opening in September, Salt Bae’s new Nusr-Et London restaurant has earned itself a reputation for gold-wrapped steaks and expensive bills.
But if anyone deserves to treat himself it is Super Tom.
The midfielder posted a video of Salt Bae cutting his steak and sprinkling it before telling Soucek and co to enjoy their meal.
The West Ham star can be seen grinning from ear to ear in the video and it was lovely to witness.
After all the Hammer admitted in a touching interview after a game that his wife had endured a tough time since arriving in England due to going into lockdown with no family around them and young children.
So it is nice to see Soucek finally being able to get out with his family and enjoy his down time.
Teammate Lukasz Fabianski also commented on the post, saying: “And no sight of potato salad…”
Some West Ham fans reacted negatively in the comments given the recent reports about Salt Bae’s expensive bills.
But Soucek is the least extravagant footballer you could wish to meet.
He revealed his family struggled to make ends meet when he was a child (The Sun).
So if he wants to treat himself and his family, he can afford it, so why shouldn’t he?
He certainly works hard enough to justify it, not that he has to.
