Star Danny Ings is certain to start for the Hammers and says he knows the secret to ending West Ham’s Brighton curse.

West Ham’s players look in high spirits heading to face Brighton as some enjoyed a sing song on the coach journey which was posted on social media.

But perhaps they should have been listening to the famous old song ‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside’ on repeat.

Because West Ham’s record against Brighton suggests anything but.

There is no way to dress it up, West Ham’s record against the Seagulls since their promotion to the top flight is ridiculous.

In 11 Premier League games between West Ham and Brighton since they came into the top flight in 2017/2018, the Hammers have failed to win a single match.

West Ham have lost five and drawn the other six. And they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at the start of the season.

The Hammers head to the Amex hoping it will be 12th time lucky.

But one man believes he has the answer and his teammates would do well to listen to him.

Star Danny Ings is certain to start and says he knows the secret to ending West Ham’s Brighton curse.

Ings missed the loss to Man United in midweek as he was cup-tied. But he will be leading the line for West Ham at Brighton after a brace on his full debut in last week’s morale boosting win over Forest.

Speaking to West Ham’s official website, Ings has laid out the blueprint for scoring against – and beating – Brighton.

“We know Brighton will be a tough opponent,” Ings told whufc.com.

“I scored a double against them earlier this season for Aston Villa, but they are a difficult side to play and really make you work hard for your possession and your chances.

“They keep the ball really well, so as a striker you know you are going to have to do a lot of work when you don’t have it.”

That is the key right there, hard work off the ball.

For most of this season West Ham had stopped pressing and working as hard as they had done in the previous two.

And the consequences have been there for all to see.

But that has changed of late and results have improved – it is no coincidence.

Let’s hope Ings’ knowledge and insight – as well as his scoring record – continues against Brighton today.

West Ham can move up to 13th with a win.
