Stan Collymore delivers the most bizarre West Ham take you’ll read all year

Stan Collymore has admitted that he was genuinely shocked by the fact that so many pundits predicted a top-half finish for West Ham United this season.

West Ham are in real trouble at the moment, and currently find ourselves sitting inside the relegation zone in the Premier League table.

That comes after back-to-back top seven finishes and David Moyes finds himself under real pressure in his role at the London Stadium.

Moyes spent £180 million in the summer transfer window to improve his squad but as things stand, he hasn’t be able to get the best out of the new arrivals.

However, the Hammers passed the test in Europe with flying colours, winning all six of our group games and qualifying for the last-16 in the process.

So what’s gone wrong in the Premier League? Collymore thinks he has the answer…

Stan Collymore makes strange West Ham claim

The ‘football pundit’ wrote his regular column for the Sunday People (February 19th, page 58), and shared why he believes the Hammers have failed to deliver in the Premier League so far this season:

“West Ham are failing because their squad isn’t good enough to cope with Europe and the demands of the Premier League. A lot of people thought the Hammers would be able to battle on two fronts. I wasn’t one of them. While they’re taking on all-comers in the Europa Conference League, they’re struggling in the Premier League. The reason for that… they don’t have the strength in depth. I was genuinely shocked when a lot of pundits had them finishing in the top half of the table and chasing another Euro dream.”

Wow! Collymore has come out with some rubbish in his time but this take might well be his worst one yet.

This just reeks of a so-called pundit writing a column without actually doing any research.

Firstly, West Ham’s squad is a lot stronger this season than it was last term, when we actually reached the Europa League semi-finals!

Secondly, we had our group pretty much sewn up by mid-October! We haven’t played a Conference League game since November, so how on earth has Collymore reached the verdict that that we’ve been unable to compete on both fronts?

In fact, West Ham were in better shape when we were playing in the Europa Conference League! Things got really bad for the Hammers after November 3rd – our final group stage game in Europe.

Stan Collymore has completely embarrassed himself with his latest take on West Ham in my opinion. We have been utterly useless in the Premier League this season but that’s not because our squad isn’t strong enough.

It’s because the quality of opposition in the league is far superior to what we faced in Europe – simple as that.
