David Moyes’ future is very much up in the air and Premier League rivals Spurs have given West Ham owner David Sullivan a problem.

That’s according to journalist Graeme Bailey when speaking exclusively to Hammers News on the manager dilemma facing the owners at West Ham.

With his West Ham contract up in the summer, speculation has been rife over whether David Moyes will sign a new deal.

Last summer the Hammers were heavily linked with hit Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.

West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady even wrote a gushing column about Postecoglou when he was at Celtic. And Brady predicted his unique style would be a big hit in the Premier League.

Many saw that as a hint West Ham might part company with Moyes to bring in Postecoglou.

But the Australian boss joined rivals Tottenham Hotspur instead.

Many West Ham fans are disgruntled about the style of football and approach from Moyes. And the Hammers rank among the worst teams in the Premier League and Europe when it comes to key statistics.

The opposite is true at Tottenham, where supporters are loving the swashbuckling football that is being served up under Postecoglou. All while competing for a place in the Champions League without former talisman Harry Kane.

Speculation has been swirling about who might replace Moyes in the summer.

Tottenham create problem for Sullivan over Moyes

The reporter, who is well connected within the game, claims the football being played at Tottenham now has piled pressure on Sullivan to replace Moyes with a more progressive, attack-minded manager who can get the best out of exciting players.

“Obviously David Sullivan – he doesn’t like change,” Bailey told Hammers News.

“You can understand that better the devil you know (mentality). We’ve seen lots of evidence that the grass isn’t always greener.

“I think what’s hurt West Ham and David Sullivan is the transformation at Tottenham. Very similar circumstances, West Ham fans would argue in terms of style of play that Spurs had under (Antonio) Conte.

‘That’s going to be the telling factor’

“You’re bringing in top talent, clearly West Ham can attract top talent – that isn’t an issue. But producing the football they are most of the time (isn’t good enough).

“And I think it is more the football as well, it’s not just about the results for West Ham is it. And I think that’s going to be the telling factor here in deciding Moyes’ future and which direction Sullivan goes in.”

Ironically West Ham scored four goals and recorded their first win of 2024 when Moyes finally bowed to calls to play more on the front foot against Brentford on Monday night.

Whether he sticks with those tactics week in, week out from here on remains to be seen.

But it may be that it proves too little too late to save Moyes’ job at West Ham.

Particularly as Bailey has revealed the only way the Scot can keep his job beyond the summer.
