West Ham go to bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur today in what is a huge six-pointer in the race for the European places.

David Moyes and Spurs Conte are both looking to chase down Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in fourth spot. And today’s clash between West Ham and Tottenham could be pivotal in pursuit of that Champions League spot.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

West Ham of course have two routes to securing Champions League football. If the Hammers win the Europa League they will automatically qualify for Europe’s top competition next term.

Securing a Europa League place in the league would be another successful season for West Ham.

And finishing fifth or sixth will secure that if the FA Cup is won by Man City, Chelsea or Liverpool.

A seventh place finish would result in Europa Conference qualification – a competition Spurs know all about after being kicked out in its inaugural season for failing to fulfil a fixture against Rennes.

West Ham have had the better of meetings with Tottenham in recent seasons and beat Sunday’s opponents 1-0 in the reverse fixture back in October.

Moyes’s boys were however knocked out of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals 2-1 at Tottenham back in December.

The Hammers go into the game off the back of a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the league and that memorable victory over Sevilla in the Europa League last 16 on Thursday night which secured West Ham’s place in the quarter-finals.

And heading into the match, Spurs boss Conte is giving West Ham top billing after watching the win over Sevilla (Sky Sports).

“My reaction to West Ham’s game was our game will be very difficult,” Conte told Sky Sports.

“If West Ham can beat Sevilla, who are second in Spain, it means the level of this league is very, very high.

“But now we are more complete and ready to fight until the end to try to reach an important target.

“It won’t be easy, there are many, many teams with the same ambitions. But if we want to improve, if we want to start to put pressure on ourselves, it’s the right time to have ambition and put ambition on ourselves.”
