A spiky David Moyes has sounded an embittered warning to his West Ham successor as the end of an era nears for the club.

It is looking increasingly likely that David Moyes will be leaving West Ham at the end of the season.

A couple of weeks ago a source close to West Ham majority owner David Sullivan told Hammers News that no decision will be made on Moyes’ contract until the end of the season.

Yesterday journalist Graeme Bailey reiterated that in an exclusive with Hammer News.

He claims Moyes now only has one major backer in the Hammers boardroom.

Moye’s contract offer is – as exclusively revealed by Hammers News – ‘subject to terms’.

Those terms centre around his influence over recruitment with his power of veto on transfers being removed.

If West Ham do not turn around the Europa League tie against Bayer Leverkusen it means West Ham’s season will end at Man City on May 19th.

So a decision will be made clear after then.

Although all the tell-tale signs are there that the Scot will be leaving after four-and-a-half years of his second spell as Hammers boss.

The Scot was straight down the tunnel again after the Fulham defeat as the London Stadium emptied long before the final whistle.

Boss agitated when fan expectation is discussed

Moyes was spiky and short with West Ham’s in-house media in his post match interview.

He often visibly bristles when the expectations of West Ham’s fans are mentioned to him during interviews.

And Moyes recently claimed it is he who is stalling on signing a new West Ham contract, justifiably defending his record and reminding everyone that he has dragged the club up from a relegation battle to three successive European campaigns.

A journalist close to the Scot recently revealed he is hurt by fan reaction to him after what he has done for West Ham.

The manager has done a phenomenal job at West Ham and will always be respected and loved for winning the club’s first major trophy for 43 years.

He has stabilised West Ham after years of in-fighting between fans and the board.

But he has also ultimately failed to future-proof a squad which once again needs major investment on as many as 10 players this summer at a time when – with new PSR rules – that may not be possible.

The Hammers boss was once again pressed and probed on his future in his pre-Leverkusen meeting with the media.

And a spiky Moyes sounded an embittered warning to his West Ham successor as the end of an era nears.

Moyes makes it clear he’ll be a tough act to follow

Moyes effectively warns he will be a tough act to follow and makes clear again that he has stabilised something of a basket case of a club.

“Maybe West Ham are a different sort of club,” a stony-faced Moyes said when questioned on the ups and downs of his time in east London.

“This place here has never been smooth at any time I don’t think.

“I think it’s been a club who has bobbed up and down. I think it’s probably had its highest standing for a long time in the last few years (under me).

“So the people who watch West Ham and the people who come here will probably know that it’s (the drama and ups and downs) part of it.

“I don’t think anybody is coming here to have a smooth time. I think it’s always got a tinge of something else about it. It’s a club which has been relegated and it has been up and down. But it’s never been in Europe three times in a row. I know that. And we have plans to try and make it four.”
