Source very close to Jean-Clair Todibo says there’s only one reason why he joined West Ham

Jean-Clair Todibo joined West Ham United from Nice last month, in what was one of the deals of the summer.

West Ham struck a deal to sign Jean-Clair Todibo on a season-long loan from the Ligue 1 side, and we have an obligation to make that deal a permanent one next summer.

The only potential downside of the deal is that it has been claimed that West Ham could fund a deal to sign Jean-Clair Todibo permanently by selling Mohammed Kudus.

We will just have to wait and see whether that claim turns out to be true or not.

And until then, we just need to enjoy watching the towering French central defender playing for the Hammers.

One thing’s for sure, Julen Lopetegui will have a much stronger defensive unit at his disposal when the former Nice man gets up to speed.

However, what was the real reason why Todibo joined the Hammers in the first place?

The only reason why Jean-Clair Todibo joined West Ham

The fact that the Hammers beat Juventus to the Frenchman’s signature is incredible really when you think about it.

The Hammers fans were genuinely shocked when it was announced that Todibo was heading to the London Stadium.

And we all have one man to thank for that it seems.

Tim Steidten was the man who made the Todibo signing possible, according to a source very close to the player himself, as reported by The Athletic.

The Hammers director of football flew out to France earlier this summer to hijack Juventus’s deal to sign the France international.

The German has worked wonders as our Director of Football, since arriving at the London Stadium in the summer of 2023.

And it has been a pleasure watching him work so closely alongside Julen Lopetegui on transfers throughout the summer.

We all owe him a huge thank you for bringing a player like Todibo to the London Stadium.

Jean-Clair Todibo will be incredible for West Ham

Sure, the Frenchman looked incredibly rusty during his first start for the Hammers on Wednesday night against Bournemouth.

However, he just needs to get his fitness levels to where they should be and adapt to Lopetegui’s system.

I have no doubts that we will then see the best of him.

He’s perfectly suited to the Premier League what with his power, impressive pace and willingness to embrace the physical side of the game.

In addition to that, there aren’t many central defenders who are as comfortable in possession as Todibo is.

Once the 24-year-old develops an understanding with Max Kilman and the two deep-lying midfielders (Edson Alvarez and Guido Rodriguez), he will be a hugely important player for the Hammers.

I still can’t quite believe that West Ham actually signed Jean-Clair Todibo in the summer, and it seems like we all have Steidten to thank for that.
