Criticism of Jarrod Bowen does need to be taken into context but Simon Jordan believes the West Ham United captain failed to show up during their defeat to Newcastle United.
A 3-1 loss at St James’ Park leaves West Ham United on the brink of the Championship and Bowen’s goal drought continued.
We are all but relegated — how would you feel about keeping Nuno in the Championship? 🧑💼
Or was that performance the last straw? 😡
Clearly, Bowen is a West Ham legend and always will be, not only for that night in Prague but because of his consistency in the Premier League.
Still, Bowen was anonymous in West Ham’s defeat to Newcastle, and he was not spared from Jordan’s criticism.
Jordan says Bowen failed to show up in West Ham’s hour of need
Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday morning, Jordan said: “I know, I know, I know that he’s been an absolute stalwart but Bowen did nothing yesterday.”
It’s difficult to disagree with that take, harsh as it may be.
How do YOU feel about Jarrod Bowen as a West Ham United captain….
Clearly a legend but a few dissenting voices 👀
Bowen’s Premier League goal drought is just not good enough. While important to remember all that he’s done for the club, it doesn’t absolve him of any blame as West Ham’s season fell apart.
Indeed, Bowen’s style as a West Ham United captain has been questioned and an ineffective display in a crucial game is unlikely to change that.
Later in the show, a caller expressed his doubts about Bowen’s ability to captain to the team and Jordan replied: “I don’t think you’ll have to worry about him being captain material because he won’t be there next year.”

Those who do reserve doubts of how useful he is with the armband may not have much more time to vent their frustrations, anyway.
Indeed, Bowen could leave West Ham this summer if they are relegated. There’s no absolute guarantee of that at this stage, but it’s difficult to imagine a player of his stature plying his trade in the Championship.
Again, there should always be a sense of perspective when talking about Bowen. He has been brilliant and this bleak situation could have happened before now if it wasn’t for him.
Still, it’s understandable as to why fans would be demanding more from him. Big players carry big responsibility.
