Shock news overnight as ex West Ham boss Harry Redknapp throws his hat in the ring for the Leeds job to provide a fresh relegation battle twist.
West Ham and Leeds United are right in the thick of this season’s ridiculously right fight for survival.
And now it seems one of West Ham’s former managers could be in the running to help keep relegation rivals Leeds in the Premier League.
West Ham have already cost the managers of two relegation rivals their jobs this season with Bruno Lage being sacked by Wolves after losing to the Hammers and Frank Lampard getting the boot from Everton after a 2-0 loss at the London Stadium last month.
Leeds boss Jesse Marsch was sent packing a couple of weeks ago and the Elland Road club are yet to appoint a replacement.
Marsch almost added a layer of intrigue to the relegation battle by becoming Southampton’s new boss this week but talks broke down.
And there was shock news overnight as ex West Ham boss Redknapp throws his hat in the ring for the Leeds job to provide a fresh relegation battle twist.
According to The Daily Mirror, Redknapp has told Leeds he is open to taking the vacant manager’s job at Elland Road until the end of the season.
Former Hammers player and boss Redknapp has not held a manager’s job in six years since leaving Birmingham in 2017 and is more often seen on TV shows than in the dugout nowadays.
But in an exclusive The Mirror claim he is open to a sensational return to management with Leeds.
Redknapp enjoyed a golden spell managing West Ham between 1994 and 2001 having played 175 times for the club as a winger.
The boyhood Hammer came through the club’s famed academy with the likes of immortal West Ham legend Bobby Moore.
Redknapp had a 37% win percentage as West Ham manager and brought some fantastic – and some not so fantastic – players to east London, playing attractive, attacking football along the way.
It would certainly add an element of intrigue to the relegation run-in. And West Ham fans will be hoping their old boss does not enjoy a fairytale comeback to keep Leeds up at their expense.
