Roy Keane brings West Ham some Christmas cheer as legend raves about Hammers

Football legend Roy Keane brings West Ham some Christmas cheer as the Sky Sports pundit raves about the Hammers.

West Ham boss David Moyes will be hoping for the perfect present when the Hammers entertain Southampton at the London Stadium on Boxing Day.

There has not been much Christmas cheer for West Ham of late. Moyes’s boys have won only once in their last six Premier League matches and were denied a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals by bitter rivals Spurs in midweek.

Southampton at home represents the perfect opportunity for West Ham to get their season back on track after dropping out of the top four last week.

Moyes has worked a minor miracle just getting West Ham into the Champions League conversation.

The Scot has transformed the club. He has turned the team from one battling relegation to genuine European contenders.

Approaching the halfway stage of the campaign – and end of the year – pundits have been assessing how teams have fared.

Some are questioning whether West Ham have what it takes to go again and seriously challenge.

But not Manchester United great Roy Keane.

The brilliant Sky Sports pundit took to the road with Micah Richards in a new ‘Driving home for Christmas’ special feature on YouTube.

And Keane is loving West Ham under Moyes, backing the Hammers to continue to challenge for a top four spot.

“Brilliant,” Keane said on Micah Richards & Roy Keane Driving Home for Christmas Episode 2 when asked about West Ham as one of the chasing pack.

“I like the look of West Ham. I think David Moyes has done a brilliant job there. They’ve got good players, good experienced players, a bit of of everything.

“They’ve had a little sticky patch, they’ve got European competition – that can take its demands heading into the new year – but I like the look of West Ham.

“I like him (Michail Antonio), he’s a handful. Not sure about his celebrations and all that! But no (I’m joking) I don’t mind players celebrating.”

Keane is one of the most hard-nosed pundits out there. So for West Ham to have made such an impression on the natural born winner says everything.

He makes a salient point about the demands of European football in the new year. But by virtue of winning their group, West Ham are automatically in the Europa League last 16 which does not take place until March.

By which time hopefully the club will have some new signings firmly bedded in.

Merry Christmas to you too Roy.
