Roberto De Zerbi responds as David Moyes says he’d love to help keep West Ham in the Premier League

The relegation battle between West Ham United and Tottenham will go down to the final day of the Premier League and Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi is pleased that a certain David Moyes is involved.

While West Ham United must beat Leeds on Sunday to stand any hope of staying up, they must also hope that Moyes and his Everton side beat Spurs.

Nuno wants to make YOU proud – so where do you think we finish in the table when all is said and done on Sunday?!

That is the only scenario that would keep the Hammers in the Premier League and former manager Moyes wants to help.

Indeed, Moyes claimed he would love to help keep West Ham in the Premier League by beating Spurs, a line which has actually gone down well with De Zerbi.

De Zerbi using Moyes comments as motivation

The Italian has chosen to use those comments from Moyes as an added motivation as his side head into Sunday’s game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, De Zerbi said: “I am happy because David Moyes said he wanted to help West Ham. For us, that is a big motivation. Premier League is the best league because every game, you have to fight even if you want just one point.

Pretend you’re Nuno – what changes are you making ahead of Leeds? 👀

If anyone says keep the back five, I'll be shocked 😂

“I am sure Leeds will play the right game [vs West Ham], like they did against us in our stadium.”

Sunday is already dripping with narrative and the Moyes factor is an added layer. It is hard not to see the irony.

Heading into Sunday’s Premier League finale, West Ham are strong favourites to get relegated instead of Tottenham

There is little point in dressing it up as a positive situation to be in. Still, the fact that Spurs have consistently failed to put West Ham away in recent weeks is potentially significant.

They have had two opportunities to do exactly that in recent weeks and haven’t taken either of them.

While they are strong favourites to do so on Sunday, so little about Spurs suggests they are capable of making the most of the luxury of controlling their own destiny.

Clearly, none of that will matter unless West Ham beat Leeds. That is the only thing they can control and there is no guarantee they are capable of it.

Strap in for a dramatic day of action Sunday…
