Former West Ham United star and academy graduate Rio Ferdinand has once again risked the wrath of the club’s fans.

Ferdinand upset West Ham fans earlier this summer when he tagged Declan Rice in on a Twitter post urging his former club Manchester United to sign the midfield star.

The ex defender was taking part in a question and answer session on his Twitter feed back in June when his post sparked a furious reaction from Hammers supporters.

Rio Ferdinand angered West Ham fans by tagging Rice into post urging Man United to sign the midfield talisman

The former England captain replied to a question asking him “What number six should [Manchester] United buy this summer?”

Ferdinand replied with: “Welcome Declan Rice,” tagging the West Ham star in the Tweet.

The episode sullied Rio’s good name with a section of West Ham supporters. And that was evident by their reaction to the recent announcement that Rio – and brother Anton – were named as the football ambassadors for PAI Capital’s West Ham takeover efforts.

Well he’s only gone and done it again hasn’t he.

Rio does it again despite involvement in West Ham takeover bid

Just a couple of weeks after putting his name to PAI Capital’s bid to buy West Ham from David Sullivan and David Gold, Rio has once again urged Manchester United to sign Rice.

Although this time Ferdinand chose his words a lot more carefully, the fact he is again hawking Rice out to the Red Devils will not sit well with West Ham fans.

‘I think if the right player becomes available for the right price, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will go and get him,’ Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel.

“The problem is who is out there and who could be a good fit? Saul Niguez would be a perfect fit and he’s asking price was £160m a couple of years ago, now it’s more like £40-50m.

Rio chooses his words more carefully but fans will be furious regardless

“In today’s game that’s a decent price for someone like him who has Champions League experience. I’m a big fan of his. If you can get him in this window, I think you do it.

“I think Declan Rice would be a massive addition to this squad. I’m a massive fan of his. I would love to see him keep progressing.

“He was brilliant for England in the summer. I think if West Ham keep him they’ve done unbelievably well. I think he does well staying at West Ham or if he goes.”

Rio may have chosen his words more carefully this time. But he continues to push for Rice to leave and that will infuriate the supporters who once adored him.
