Rio Ferdinand predicted that Declan Rice will stay at West Ham United this season, when speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel. Rio did admit that he could see the 21-year-old leaving to join Chelsea for around £50 million in the summer, however.
The 13-capped England international has been superb for the Hammers over the past two or three years.
He has undoubtedly been our best and most consistent player during that period of time.
The talented young midfielder is now the most important player that David Moyes has at his disposal.
Unfortunately for West Ham, however, the fine performances of Declan Rice have clearly not gone unnoticed.
Rio Ferdinand can see Declan Rice leaving in the summer
The Blues seem to be the club who have most chance of signing the Hammers youngster. Rice began his career at Stamford Bridge.
Whether Frank Lampard is given the funds to bring the talented West Ham starlet to west London, however, remains to be seen.
Rio Ferdinand praised Declan Rice for his level headedness, suggesting that he won’t push for a move away from the London Stadium. He did tell his FIVE YouTube channel that the midfielder could leave West Ham for around £50 million in the summer, however:
“I don’t think he goes this window, I think he stays there for the remainder of the season. I don’t think he’s the kind of kid who is going to push to leave right now. If it happens, it will be between the clubs. I think he’s quite a laid-back kid in that sense but he’s a driven kid. He’s someone who wants to achieve, better himself and improve. He’s like a sponge. He wants to know everything because he wants to better himself and you can’t fault a kid like that. Good luck to him. I think it’s inevitable he will go but I think he will go in the summer and I think it would be to Chelsea if he had his wish. West Ham would be looking to get as much as they can. I think with the Covid situation, the price has to be altered again. West Ham would be looking for £70m plus but with Covid it will be around £50m.”
Let’s hope that Declan stays at the London Stadium for the rest of his career.
He is not out of contract until the summer of 2024 let us not forget. And West Ham have the option of extending that deal by a further 12 months.
Whether the Hammers owners will be able to resist a massive bid from Chelsea in the summer, however, remains to be seen.
One thing’s for sure, we shouldn’t even be contemplating selling Declan Rice for £50 million. Nothing less than £80 million will do for a player who is fast becoming one of the very best in the Premier League.
