Richard Keys has sent an infuriatingly smug statement to West Ham fans after Nottingham Forest defeat

Richard Keys is on a constant windup when it comes to his interactions with West Ham United fans.

Keys regularly goes out of his way to make controversial statements about a lot of clubs, but West Ham seems to be a constant target for his quips.

In fact, there have been suggestions that Keys has actually taken pleasure from some of West Ham’s pain recently.

The Hammers are in real trouble right now and are staring relegation from the Premier League squarely in the face.

Nuno Espirito Santo looked bereft of ideas on the touchline during the defeat to Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium on Tuesday night.

HEARTBREAKER! How are you feeling after Hammers 1-2 Forest 💔

The defeat which sends West Ham down?

Alphonse Areola of West Ham United comes out to attempt to punch the ball and collides with Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham Forest to concede a penalty during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at London Stadium on January 06, 2026 in London, England.

Nuno sent a message to the West Ham fans after the 2-1 loss to Forest, pleading for their support.

However, unless he figures things out quickly, the Hammers supporters will lose interest.

That happened to an extent on Tuesday night for the Forest game when the West Ham fans voted with their feet.

There were tens of thousands of empty seats at the London Stadium and that may well force David Sullivan into action.

Back in 2024, Sullivan was under real pressure from some West Ham fans who were protesting against not only the board, but the manager as well.

Many Hammers fans wanted David Moyes gone, after a woeful run of form after the turn of the year that saw him guide his side to just two wins in 12 games.

And now, unsurprisingly, Richard Keys has taken to his X account to poke fun at the West Ham supporters.

He said: Just two years ago West Ham fans were demonstrating because they wanted David Moyes fired. Be careful what you wish for…..

Not that tired old cliche again…please.

Why do West Ham fans constantly get told that we haven’t got the right to demand more?

Be careful what you wish for jibe so unfair on West Ham fans

Is following a football club not all about dreaming of those Champions League nights under the lights against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich?

And let’s be fair here. The West Ham fans have put in the hard yards, so to speak, when it comes to supporting their team.

They filled out Upton Park week in, week out in the Championship and there is never an away allocation that doesn’t sell out within the hour of going on sale.

What did YOU make of the penalty which gifted Forest the win?

What defence could Areola have?

Tomas Soucek of West Ham United gestures during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at London Stadium on January 6, 2026 in London, England.

All of that for a team that has won just one trophy in 46 years? That’s not bad support if you ask me. In fact, it’s right up there with the very best.

Patronising pundits like Keys believed that West Ham fans should have been happy where they were as a club two years ago.

However, the massive point that they’re missing is that those West Ham fans who were protesting could see what was coming.

They weren’t moaning and protesting about sitting in sixth spot in the Premier League table. They knew the direction the club was heading after David Sullivan refused to spend in the January transfer window and Moyes continued with his painfully dull setups.

At the end of 2023, the Hammers were ready and primed to push for the top four but the owners lacked the required ambition, as did Moyes with his team selections and tactics.

West Ham ended up in ninth position in the Premier League table and the rot had well and truly set in.

A 14th-placed finish followed in the 2024/25 season while relegation now looks almost certain in the 2025/26 campaign.

West Ham fans saw all of this coming. That’s why they protested. However, that seems to go over a lot of people’s heads, Keys included.
