West Ham United allegedly have a phone call scheduled with the agent of Napoli attacking midfielder Piotr Zielinski.

That’s according to a report from Il Mattino who claim that West Ham are ready to make a €40 million (£34 million) bid for the 28-year-old – an offer that Napoli would accept.

In addition to that, it is suggested that the 72-capped Poland international will demand a four-year deal with around £5.5 million per year (£105k-a-week).

Zielinski would be a superb addition for the Hammers from a footballing perspective.

We have to say though, £34 million in transfer fees plus another £5.5 million per year for four years seems slightly excessive for a 28-year-old – especially one who is unproven in the Premier League.

It seems as though David Moyes thinks he will be more than worth that kind of money though…

West Ham set for phone call with Zielinski agent

Il Mattino claims that the Hammers are scheduled to speak to the Pole’s representative to discuss personal terms and are ready to spend around £34 million on the Napoli ace.

Despite our reservations about the cost of the deal, Zielinski would undoubtedly be a fine addition for West Ham.

The 28-year-old is undoubtedly a huge talent and has the kind of ability that would definitely take West Ham’s attacking play to another level.

Zielinski bagged eight goals and five assists in 42 games for Napoli last season and in the 2020/21 campaign, he racked up 10 goals and 13 assists in 47 games (Transfermarkt).

In 35 Serie A outings last season, the Poland international made 36.1 passes on average per game and recorded an impressive completion rate of 84.8%. He also made an average of 1.4 key passes per match (Who Scored).

Former Poland manager Paulo Sousa described the Napoli midfielder as ‘exceptional’ (The Guardian).

And if West Ham manage to sign Zielinski this summer, we would definitely be a stronger outfit in general.

As mentioned earlier though, we strongly believe that the cost of the deal to bring the 28-year-old to the London Stadium is just too much.

In our view, there is far better value for money to be had out in the market this summer. David Moyes need look no further than Ludovic Blas. He’d be a better all-round option than Zielinski.

That said, the Napoli ace would still add a lot to the West Ham team and if that’s who Moyes really wants, then we back the Scot’s judgement.
