West Ham United’s interest in replacing David Moyes with Paulo Fonseca is very much real.

According to a report from French publication Foot01, West Ham are eyeing up current Lille boss Paulo Fonseca as the perfect replacement for David Moyes.

Hammers manager Moyes is currently under real pressure at the London Stadium after a poor Premier League campaign so far this season.

However, that pressure has been somewhat alleviated after West Ham took four points from games against Fulham and Arsenal and progressed through to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League after beating Gent 5-2 on aggregate.

That doesn’t mean that the Hammers owners aren’t still on the look-out for a new manager though…

West Ham interest in Paulo Fonseca is very real

Foot01 claim that the Hammers are ‘absolutely’ interested in bringing the Portuguese to the London Stadium in the summer to replace Moyes.

I have repeatedly insisted that Moyes is not the man to take us forward as a club. And I believe that the Lille manager would be the ideal man to come in and take the Scot’s place.

Fonseca deploys a system whereby ball retention is a key component. It’s a possession based system.

The 50-year-old deploys a 4-2-3-1 formation with the emphasis on attacking, creative and free-flowing play from his team.

Paulo Fonseca replacing David Moyes at West Ham would be like chalk and cheese. PortuGOAL describe the Lille boss as a ‘tactical mastermind’.

It would be such a hugely refreshing change for the Hammers fans, after some of the dire football that we’ve been served up over the past 12-18 months.

Having said all of that, should Moyes keep us up and guide us to our first major trophy in 43 years, sacking him would be an incredibly harsh call from the West Ham board, albeit the correct one in my opinion.
