West Ham United signed nine new players in the summer transfer window, but many left the London Stadium as well.
12 players left West Ham United in the summer transfer window in fact, including four deadline day loan exits.
Julen Lopetegui oversaw a huge squad overhaul at the London Stadium, and the Hammers squad now is unquestionably stronger than the one the Spaniard inherited from David Moyes at the start of the summer.
The likes of Max Kilman, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Guido Rodriguez have improved the Hammers beyond all recognition.
In addition to that, moving on some of the deadwood has been vital as well – it was one of Lopetegui’s chief remits when he took over.
And it was particularly important for Lopetegui to get rid of one underperforming player in the summer…
Player admits he’s delighted that he left West Ham in the summer
Unfortunately for the Hammers, the players who exited on deadline day only left on loan.
Hopefully all of those become permanent exits in the summer.

Nayef Aguerd is someone who the Hammers desperately wanted to sell.
In fact the 28-year-old rejected a move to leave West Ham to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad before he linked up with Sociedad – one that would have seen us pick up £21 million.
That hurt us badly, as it prevented us from making another significant signing.
Now Aguerd has broken his silence and admitted that he is delighted he was allowed to leave the London Stadium, when speaking to Noticias de Gipuzkoa.
The Moroccan said, “First of all, I would like to thank West Ham for letting me leave. I wanted to try something new. I have a contract with them and now I’m here, I don’t think about the past only in the present. I’m ready for Real.”
Aguerd never good enough for West Ham
The Hammers signed the Morocco international from Rennes in the summer of 2022 for a fee believed to be worth £30 million (Sky Sports).
However, he’s been absolutely horrendous for West Ham over the past two years.
He is nowhere near physical enough to succeed in the Premier League, and will be far more suited to La Liga.
It’s just a shame that the Hammers didn’t manage to sell him in the summer window.
The 28-year-old defender hasn’t been involved for the Hammers at all during competitive games since Lopetegui took over from David Moyes.
The West Ham head coach was obviously happy to let him go and be left short in the central defensive department as a result, rather than keep him at the club.
And Nayef Aguerd clearly doesn’t have any kind of future at West Ham.
