Speaking to Spanish radio, the former Rayo Vallecano manager suggested his future could actually lie here in east London after all.

Jemez suggests West Ham talks will continue after Nuno called him

Asked about his future at the London Stadium by COPE, Jemez said: “He wanted me to stay there with him.”

It’s also added that Jemez believes he will need to continue talking with Nuno Espirito Santo before reaching a decision on his future.

Following their relegation from the Premier League, West Ham have confirmed that Nuno will be staying on as manager next season amid previous doubts about his own future.

Replacing Jemez would be a major task. It is imperative that West Ham get promoted straight away and Nuno having a strong coaching staff on which to lean would certainly be conducive to that.

Jemez was a popular figure among West Ham players and staff and his impact was notable.

There was a marked improvement in West Ham’s defensive displays following his appointment in mid-January, to the point where the team almost stayed in the Premier League.

Clearly, they didn’t in the end, and Jemez does need to take some accountability on that front.

Still, quite what he could do with a full pre-season under his belt is exciting to imagine. West Ham, on paper at least, already look like one of the favourites to come straight back.

Considering his popularity and obvious impact, keeping Jemez would be a statement of intent.

Hopefully, there is a positive conclusion to his talks with Nuno and their journey is able to continue for another season at least.
