Paco Jemez’s decision to leave West Ham United has disappointed supporters on social media.

The January appointment of Jemez saw West Ham United’s fortunes change, with the former Rayo Vallecano manager bringing about an immediate upturn in defensive performances.

Indeed, Jemez was a popular figure at West Ham and while their survival bid ultimately faltered, the fact that Nuno Espirito Santo is staying on as manager perhaps raised hope that their partnership in the dugout could continue.

Still, Paco has announced he is leaving West Ham, and fans are gutted about it.

“Bring him back now,” said one fan.

Another added: “Big loss!”

“Beyond gutted!” claimed one supporter.

This fan said: “Not happy! He is now a Hammers fan, but he is still going!”

“That’s really a big blow,” said one unhappy onlooker.

Quite what happens next is unclear.

Presumably, Jemez will need to be replaced on the West Ham coaching staff. Nuno is set to stay on and lead next season’s bid for an immediate promotion back to the Premier League, but the exact make-up of his staff is still to be confirmed.

Jemez would have certainly done his reputation the world of good during his brief time here in east London, even if West Ham did eventually succumb to relegation.

It’s difficult to celebrate almost staying up but that does not mean the good work that both Jemez and Nuno actually managed to do should be completely overlooked.

Nuno has already lost one key member of West Ham’s respectable but ultimately doomed survival bid. How the West Ham United head coach will be hoping not many follow Jemez through the exit door.
