Opta supercomputer now predicts how likely West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham are to be relegated

West Ham United’s chances of being relegated from the Premier League have slightly increased alongside Nottingham Forest’s, according to the Opta supercomputer.

What looked like a good point for West Ham United against Manchester City on Saturday night now doesn’t seem enough.

Indeed, while none of this season’s relegation candidates (assuming Wolves and Burnley are already down) won this weekend, Nuno Espirito Santo’s are right back to where they started.

Having climbed out of the relegation zone, they’re back in it with eight games to play, with Forest just ahead on goal difference.

Here’s how the infamous Opta supercomputer sees it.

West Ham have 46.26% chance of relegation, Forest 34.05% and Spurs 14.9%

It’s very tight at the bottom.

While West Ham have the momentum, that’s all they have right now. The fact is that of the three teams, they are currently in the worst position – even if it’s not by much.

Level on points with Forest (29), the Midlands club also boast a better goal difference.  

As such, West Ham’s perilous position in the Premier League table is given a 45.26% chance of being relegated. 

Forest (34.05%), meanwhile, are handed a 65.95% chance of staying up, after they drew with Fulham on Sunday.

Finally, Spurs (14.9%) – the team who looked destined for the drop when they were thrashed by Crystal Palace – are the big winners here.

Despite a dreadful season in north London, Opta still give them a huge 85.1% chance of remaining in the Premier League. 

It is worth mentioning, however, that Forest and Spurs meet next week. If West Ham can beat Aston Villa away – which is clearly easier said than done – then they know they could capitalise.

There’s little doubt that West Ham have difficult fixtures remaining but their performances in recent weeks have been so impressive that they remain difficult to write off.
