Opinion: Issa Diop may have just been given a great chance to reignite his West Ham career

Issa Diop hasn’t started for West Ham since September.

The towering Frenchman came on as a 63rd minute substitute on Saturday during our 1-0 win over Fulham, however.

The 23-year-old replaced the injured Angelo Ogbonna. ExWHUemployee has claimed that David Moyes is concerned that the Italian could have sustained a serious groin injury.

Losing the 32-year-old for a lengthy period of time would be a big blow for the Hammers. But it would also provide Diop with an opportunity to reignite his West Ham career.

Diop moved to the London Stadium from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for around £25 million (The Express).

Diop initially made a huge impact at the London Stadium, but his form nosedived last season.

He needs to get back to his best. And sitting on the bench will not help him one little bit. He is currently West Ham’s fourth choice centre-back.

So Ogbonna potentially missing a couple of games may well give the Frenchman a chance to prove himself to Hammers boss David Moyes once again.

Diop has so many qualities. He really should be dominating Premier League games. His confidence has suffered of late, however. And there is only one way to get that back – regular playing time.

Let’s just hope that if Ogbonna is forced to spend some time on the sidelines, Diop grasps his opportunity with both hands.
